I need help! I got my rifle zeroed a few weeks ago and have been to the range about 4 times since then. Here's my problem.... When I left the range the first day the rifle was perfectly centered and zeroed for 100 yds. I left the range and came back a week later and tge first group before any adjustments were made was way to the left. I made the appropriate adjustments and got it back to center. Left the range, came back 4 days later and my first group was about 4" to the right. Made the adjustment and got it zeroed again. What keeps causing this POI shift every time I go to the range. I have a quality scope so I know it's not the scope. My only idea is that I may have zeroed the rifle with a hot barrel and when i go home my barrel cools down then I come back to the range and my cold bore zero is different that my original zero. I have a Schneider barrel so I wouldn't think this would be the issue either. Any thoughts on what I can do to keep my zero true so that I don't have to make an adjustment every time I come to the range?

Re: Question about POI shift

You should list everything, rifle, scope, etc, 4" is huge in terms of a shifting zero... clearly there is an issue, or you have a pretty significant cold shooter issue. I highly doubt it is heat causing it to shift right 4" at 100 yards.

Re: Question about POI shift

The rifle is a rem 700 with Schneider 1:11 twist. Scope is NXS 3.5-15x50. I'm at the range as I type this. I have it zeroed again but I know that even though I won't touch the scope, next time I come to the range the zero will be off again. If u look at my recent posts u will see all the specs of my rifle. I have A feeling that it has something to do with the scope and not the rifle.

Re: Question about POI shift

Ok now that Im home and can actually sit down and type. I got home and was inspecting the scope and noticed that the base wasnt properly torqued and there was very slight movement in the scope and base. Would this have caused the shift? Another question.... if I remove the scope to re-torque the base, will I have to rezero the scope even if I keep the ring and scope in the exact same slots on the base?

Re: Question about POI shift

Yes, a loose base could easily be the problem.

Yes if you make any changes to the base you may have to rezero. Hopefully you will still have a point of impact close to before.

Removing and reattaching the scope should hopefully be close, but still expect to have to check your zero.

Re: Question about POI shift

This reminded me of my buddies 10/22 I was shooting one day. As I was shooting the .22 I noticed that groups started to shift in different directions. I started to check the rings and scope and noticed that the base was not torqued right. Might want to throw a tab of blue locktite on the end of the screw threads to make sure that they will not back out again.
