Question about Surefire V2 Vampire

Please correct me if I am wrong, but that light, Surefire V2 Vampire, which sends out an infared beam is only useful to someone wearing NVG? Has anyone used this or similar products? Sounds like a good idea, is it?

Ir is only useful for Night Vision. I have used them and they put off a lot of IR light. The also put out 150 lumens of white light. With the IR light you can get over 100yards of illumination.
