Rifle Scopes Question about the IOR 4x24 tactical

I have been reading about the IOR 4x24 M2 tactical scope and at least half of the reviews mention that the scope is set for 223 or 308 (depending on what you order).

What does this mean?

Being new to optics, I wondered if it was like the old military iron sights, where the elevation settings were preset and marked out for yardage based on the standard issue ball.

The reason I am worried is because I am interested in this scope, but want to put it on a 243.

*edit* The review in the link mentions the BDC is set for 223, but some reviews that I have read mention that the scope is on a cam... and that was the part that confused me.

Have you looked at the POSP line of scopes? A little on the heavy side, but durable as hell and very good for the money.

By "on a cam", they mean that the "clicks" that normally correspond to say, 1/4MOA, are instead calibrated for every 50/100 yards, just like the iron sights of old as you said.

The model I linked above is calibrated for 1/2moa, making adjustments quick, but less precise. Out to maybe 600 yards you'd have easy hits on a silhouette no prob.

Also, there are 1mil windage ticks in the SVD reticle pattern, allowing for traditional western reticle ranging and wind holds.

You don't want to put that on a 243.

I owned one of those scopes and while it was a good scope the eye relief is really really short. I used it on the carry handle of an AR but mounted on a bolt gun I doubt you'd get close enough to it to see through it.
