So I am about to BUILD my first AR. I've owned several but never actual built one. I want to install a Diablo flash hider but don't want it too far from the handguard. I prefer to have it flush with the handguard to hide the barrel itself. Now my question is this: With a 12 inch handguard (with a low profile gas block underneath) what size barrel would I need to obscure the barrel taking into consideration the threads on the barrel. A 12.5"?

Sounds about right. I'm building mine similar. 13.5 inch rail on a 14.5 inch barrel. I didn't want to go the SBR route.

A 2" long muzzle device needs to be permanantly "pinned" to bring the overall length of the 14.5" barrel to 16".

A shorty with long ass hand guard that envelopes a Noveski KX3 flash hider looks downright evil.... I know they make one for .30 cal dunno about others.
