Once in a while when I am shooting my HK USP tactical .45, regardless of ammo, it fails to return to battery. I assume the recoil spring is the culprate but before I start replacing parts I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this issue and if so what was the solution? I am shooting unsupressed with everything from handloads to Winchester white box and it only happens once in a great while. I'm also assuming that the recoil spring is different for the tactical .45 than the regular USP .45? Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Re: Question for HK USP Tac. .45 owners

I have shot about 2000 rounds through mine with an AAC evo. It never gives me any issues. I do not clean it every time I shoot but I do keep it wet. Also, I shoot the cheapest ammo I can get.

Have you noticed that it only happens with a certain ammo?
Do you keep it wet?

Re: Question for HK USP Tac. .45 owners

Could be a few things...
1. Limp wristing it (please take no offense.. I've been guilty of before)
2. Underpowered round
3. Dirty gun
4. Thumb riding the slide

I'm sure there are more things but this is all I can think of. It could be the spring but unless you have over 5K down it I doubt that is it... but never know.

Good luck and hope you get it figured out.

Good list. One other possibility is whether or not a chamber gauge was used for the handloads. The handloads themselves could simply be out of spec. I've had that problem myself with the fullsize USP 45.

Re: Question for HK USP Tac. .45 owners

Happens with all kinds of ammo, gun clean or dirty, thought of the limp wrist thing and it wasn't the problem either and no thumb on the slide. I'm thinking it's either the recoil spring or the polymer to metal fit...will have to recheck the fit when I get home.

Thanks for the suggestions,
Steve
