Hi All,
I'm thinking about buying an AICS chassis for my 700 LTR, but have a quick question about how they work:
I have a problem with my current rifle, in that it's looking like one of the rails on the receiver has worn down a bit, causing the first round in the built-in magazine to pop out prematurely and jam if I have 5 rounds in the magazine.
I was wondering if the AICS system, since it has a detachable magazine, relies on those rails holding the rounds in, or if the detachable magazine handles that instead. Basically, I don't want to shell out the $$$ for the AICS if the fact that one of my rails is worn down a bit will cause problems feeding from the detachable magazine on the AICS chassis.
Excuse my ignorance on how they work - I've never seen an AICS or other detachable magazine system for the Remington 700 up close, so I just don't want to make a $1K mistake. I'm guessing that the rounds feed straight from the magazine, and that lips on the magazine keep the rounds in place until the bolt carries them forward, but just wanted to be sure...
Cheers,
Russ
