Question on 700 bottom metal

Just curious if anyone knows off the top of their head, any short action detachable box mag. bottom metal for the 700 that fits the pattern of the factory hinged floor plate before I go on a possible goose chase. Really just looking for a replacement that won't require inletting and bedding.

Thanks for any help.

If there is already a thread on this that I missed, I apologize for repeating it.

Re: Question on 700 bottom metal

There are several options out there, however most take proprietary magazines and they're not all the easy to find. And if you're lucky enough to find some they always bring a premium. I recommend getting your stock inletted for something more common like the AI's or something.

Re: Question on 700 bottom metal

I think the Wyatt's is probably the best one of the factory inlet fitting DBMs as far as finding magazines goes. (At least pre New Town).

But I think I would have to agree with Little Z28. The PTG DBMs are about half the price of the Wyatt's and they use AICS mags which are more readily available (if you can say that in 2013). Both mags cost about the same money.

So, with the $125.00 you save by going with the PTG bottom metal, you can easily have the stock inlet to fit the M5-like pattern.

Re: Question on 700 bottom metal

I bought the HS Precision 10 round mag and bottom metal for my Rem 5R. Fit perfectly although you have to do a little tweaking with the depth of the magazine, meaning how tight you snug up the screws. My stock is a HS stock but I think it fits Rem 700 stocks also. It's expensive but cheaper than Badger metal.

Re: Question on 700 bottom metal

PTG makes a great product! I have put several on rifles in the past, and they have always worked well. I have done a few of the DIY inlets, and I have found that the results are usually a direct reflection of the amount of patience I have. If you take your time, and go SUPER SLOW, there is no reason you cannot get a good result from a DIY inlet. If it makes you nervous to be "hacking away" at an expensive stock then it IS worth the money to have it done professionally.
