I've been looking at them at a local gun shop and the glass is clear and looks great, but after reading reviews online I have seen a few bad reviews. All the reviews state the same problem which has me wondering. I've been wanting a 1-4x to put on an AR I use for under 400 yards and am not wanting to spend much on the scope. I looked at the SWFA SS 1-4 but don't want to spend that much. I know they are probably excellent scopes as I have a 16x42 that I love on my 308. Any suggestions on other 1-4x scopes or experience with the Millet. I have a millet 6-25x56 on a 325wsm that has held up perfectly for 5 years, so that is the main reason I am still thinking about them.

Re: Question on Millet DMS

I have (or had) one on my AR15 carbine; I just swapped it out for a Vortex Strikefire, but plan on using it on a varmint build. The DMS-1 is a good buy, and performs reasonably well. I've had no problem using it out to 300 yards. The zoom ring can be hard to turn, so if you buy one I'd equip it with an MGM Switchview lever. Don't know what bad things you heard about it, but I have no complaints besides the hard zoom.

Re: Question on Millet DMS

I had a Millet DMS-1.

It had a very noticeable fish eye effect. The magnification ring was very hard and stiff and required something like 270º to go from 1-4x. Illumination is also not daytime visible, if that matters to you.

For a little bit more, I'd opt for the Burris TAC-30 , it seems to get great reviews, especially in that price range. Not sure what your price range is, give us a ballpark figure and if the price includes a mount or not, etc.

Re: Question on Millet DMS

I just traded one. It was an OK little scope, but I much preferred the Vortex offering. Personally I wasn't a fan of the "donut" reticle, and lack of target turrets. Illumination was another factor...I can see the PST's reticle fine in daylight but not the DMS's.

Given those parameters, you can do fine with the DMS contingent on your expectations/requirements. But in the long run, buy once/cry once seems to be the way to go.

Re: Question on Millet DMS

I had one which held up fine on an FAL. I prefer the Vortex PST 1-4 but it is not even a remotely fair comparison when the Millett is less than half the cost of the Vortex.

I think the Millett would serve most purposes well overall, as long as it is not a defective unit.

Re: Question on Millet DMS

I've been using one for about 4 years. I was using it on a 16" RRA 223 with about 2,000 through it. I used for hunting, competition, and general plinking with no problems. I was able to consistently able to hit milk jugs at about 275 yards. I recently mounted it on a RRA 308. I've put about 300-400 rounds down range with it on the 308 with no problems. Overall for the money I think it was a good buy. Having said that, I have not looked through other 1-4x scopes in that price range.
