Good morning all,
I’m new to this forum, having been watching from the sideline for a couple of years. Had something happen yesterday that I haven’t read about on here, missing it if it has been talked about.
I had just installed a 4.5-14 VX III on a Savage 308 and wanted to see if it was going to shoot, so I set up a target at 100 and got ready to shoot. Put the gun on the bags and lined up with the target. Adjusted the parallax and started shooting. Very unimpressed. This is an older scope with the parallax adjustment on the front, so I looked at that number and it was setting on around 50 yards. I moved it to 100 as I was shooting a known yardage. The bulls eye was not as clear, but with the gun on the bags, I could move around behind the scope and the crosshairs stayed on target. The target I was shooting had a red diamond that I could focus on, so I did that. Gun shot much better, or at least shows some promise.
I got another gun out, a 7RM with an 8-32 NF scope. Put it on the bags and adjusted parallax until target clear, then adjusted again until I could move around and crosshairs stayed on target. Again blurred. I shot using the red diamond and the gun shot like never before.
My question to you is, what do I do not? Am I going to have to shot wearing glasses? I wear glasses to read, but didn’t think I needed them all time. I have an appointment with the eye doctor next week, is there anything to visit with him about to get an answer about this.
Thanks

Re: Question with Parallax / Eyes

Make sure to adjust the ocular first, that may help (it interacts with the parallax adjustment).

Set parallax to infinity and turn eyepiece a couple turns in one direction.

Glance through the scope at something really far away (like a building across town or a mountain). If the RETICLE is in focus, stop. If the reticle is not in focus (it won't be the first few times), turn the eyepiece a little bit in thee direction opposite what you did in the first step

When the reticle is in perfect focus, you are done and you should never have to touch the ocular again.

Re: Question with Parallax / Eyes

I wear reading glasses. Far away vision is fine. I shoot through my scope with my reading glasses. I am pretty sure, though not TOTALLY sure, that the image you see in the scope is a "near" image. That is, it is some 12-24" away (somewhere in the scope). Anyone know for sure?

Anyway it occured to me that my left eye glass should be clear--no correction. That way I could see far away. Or perhaps some special glasses with the middle set up for near and top and bottom set up for far away.
