So I'm needing some help and this sounds like the place to get it. I'm a long time reloader and hide lurker but 1st time poster.

I'm looking at forming some 17 Rem brass out of 204 brass. I've never formed my own brass before but am up to the challenge. I understand I need a form die and a trim die from my google searches. Then I came across a redding form & trim die at various places online. My question is does anyone have any experience with what sounds like a combo die? Am I better off just buying a separate die for forming and trimming? Any help would be much appreciated. I apologize if this has already been asked but after multiple searches I couldn't find it.
Thanks in advance.

Kyle

I'd buy factory 17 Rem brass before forming from another caliber.

Products

If you do neck down 204 to 17 Rem there is fairly high probability you'll need to neck turn the brass. Neck of the newly formed case will be made up of what was the shoulder of the 204 along with some of the neck.

Check with RW Hart, do some additional digging as you'll probably be able to find some 17 Rem brass.

If you do form 17 Rem from 204, I'd just get a form die. Trimming can be done a couple of ways after brass has been formed, trim die isn't "needed".

Thanks FCS.
I was hoping to find a way to make it since 17 brass is so hard to find as well as pretty high when I do find it. Thanks for such a quick reply. Looks I will go with the correct brass until I can get further input. Thanks again
