Sidearms & Scatterguns Quick fix for 1911 failure to feed?

Re: Quick fix for 1911 failure to feed?

Does it happen with all your mags? If yes, then move to the extractor.

Is the extractor hook on the underside, where the cartridge rim rides up underneath rounded and polished? If no, Youtube search Wilson Combat extractor polishing.

Is the ramp angle on your frame and barrel correct? Is your barrel properly throated?

Some more information on your part will help the diagnosis a little more

Re: Quick fix for 1911 failure to feed?

Typically that is a result of too much extractor tension. With the slide only place a loaded round under the extractor. A 45 acp requires just enough tension for the round to hang there. If it requires any force to push the round up under the extractor then its too much tension.

YES, NO, YES and YES.

What I did with my extractor fixed the intermittent problem.

Since the fix I have shot 200 gr. HP+RN+SWC and 185 gr. + 230 gr. in all three of my magazines that are made by 3 different manufactures without one hick up.

PS: I guess I got lucky.
