On rem varmint style stocks with the double front swivel stud, is there any advantage of placing the bipod on the stud closer to you to the one at the very front? Does it affect accuracy\balance in any way? I didn't know what would be an appropriate forum for this question.

Yes dont do that. It allows you to place a should strap behind it. You will find when carrying a heavy barrel around that this makes it easier.
