when stock is folded do you have to press a button to unfold it or do you just pull on the butt and it opens?

No just unfold it.

They close up positively, but release from the folded position with just a light tug on the buttstock. To fold the stock from the open position, you have to push the button on the right side (for right-handed chassis) to unlock the folding mechanism.

does the hinge loosen up over time?

Negative. We have the 2.0 chassis on our work guns and I have never seen one with any slop and that's with several hundred cycles on the hinge.
