I didn't have quickload when I made my 338 Lapua load a few years ago. I was messing around with quickload yesterday and using H1000 and 300gr scenars. My 91.0gr that i ended up with is WAY over the pressure limit according to the software. Yet Hodgdon says 92.0 is the max. I realize that the maximums from different people very, but quickload shows it way way over. I have no pressure signs and it shoots great, just a little concerned.

Quickload is really conservative from a liability standpoint. I no longer use it for that reason.

I have been reloading long enough to know what powder will work in what cartridge based on a burn rate chart and my conservative starting points have always been a good starting point for all my new loads. So no need to pay them for something I have pretty much learned how to do on my own.

One other thing... 338 was originally spec'd out at 68,000 PSI CIP if memory serves and then it was later dropped down to what the SAAMI spec is now. Most match rifles with heavy barrels and custom actions will still meet the original CIP specifications which are much higher. 338 Lapua was a Europen developed cartridge and they use CIP, not SAAMI so if you are confused to what CIP is..... CIP is the short form for “Commission Internationale Permanente pour l'Epreuve des Armes à Feu Portatives” which translates to “Permanent International Commission for Firearms Testing”.

You will notice some 338 Lapua (Lapua made ammo) has CIP on the box if it was loaded for a European CIP spec'd 338.

The CIP 338 cartridge spec is also longer. When I ordered my CADEX chassis, I had it made with a CIP mag well because Accurate mag makes CIP length magazines. I want the max bullet seating length possible so I am not losing 1 grain of capacity that can be used by powder.
