For those of you using QuickLOAD...

If you feed QL case and projectile data, will the software determine the proper COAL?

I am having difficulty getting COAL data for various 458 SOCOM loads, and have noticed a large variance in OALs. From way under to right up to mag length and I can't understand how people are arriving at these numbers. The best I can figure, it's some kind of wizardry based on the internal capacity of the case combined with the particular projectile. I am leary of plonking down $150 on software only to find out it won't help me determine appropriate OALs.

Any thoughts?

Re: QuickLOAD question...

OAL is variable that can be changed. But it does give you a standard OAL when you load a new cartridge into the program. At least all the ones I have played with.

Re: QuickLOAD question...

Quick Load uses standard OAL for any cartridge unless user specifies other wise. Its reloading manuals that will tell you the OAL of a loaded round. Quick Load will show you the difference (for example .308 cartridge) a case loaded at 2.800 will have different velocities than one loaded at 2.820. So overall QL does a lot for a reloader and long range shooter.
