I'm getting ready to start back into reloading and I got my hands on some Reloader 15. What are your suggestions for starting to work up a load for my Rem 700 SPS Varmint 308 , 1:12 with 26" barrel ? The components I'll be using are Lake City brass, 168 SMKs, R-15, and Winchester Primers. What load would you start with and what kind or increments would you use as you go up ? How many of each load do you usually load up for load testing ? and lastly do you usually start with a COAL right on the lands or do you start with it backed off a bit ? Just trying to get a starting point as to what most do when developing a load.

I would start at 43 or so grains. Work up in .5 increments with 6 each.

After you find a relative range that shoots the best, go with another six and go up from the load that started improving and stop and the one that got worse. I would do .3 a this time.

Any less and you wont see any difference in my experience.

Most bullets you are save from .010 to .020. Might not be the best for your gun but get the powder down, and then mess with depth.
