Forgive me if this has been asked before (and I'm sure it has based on my searches...)

I am looking for a definitive answer on how much elevation I should have in my rail and mount for a S&B 5-25 (mrad.) I understand that the scope is designed for a 45 MOA base. Can elevation in your base be combined with elevation in a mount with no ill effects?

My rifle has a 20 MOA base currently. Should I get a mount (Spuhr) with an additional 20 MOA of cant, to bring my total cant to 40 MOA? I think that I can get away with just the 20MOA base and a 0 MOA cant mount and still have enough usable elevation in the scope to reach ~1300 yards, however if using a canted mount along side a canted base works without issue, I'd rather have more usable elevation.

Will a canted base work with a canted mount without bringing the cheek weld too high? My current rifle is a 308 in an A5 with adjustable cheek piece. This scope combo will go onto my new AI AXMC (308) which has a 20 MOA base as well.

Cheers!

I have my .308 mounting a 5-25X on a 20 MOA Spuhr. This allows me to zero at 100 with out being at the very bottom of the range and I have more top end capability than .308 can access. I think I burned up 8 mils +/- to zero at 100. My bullets will fall out of the sky before I need to max the range left over.

Yes S&B recommends a a lot of cant (1/2 the scopes capability if I remember right but if most of your shooting is using the bottom of the adjustability why do it.

I understand too much cant can be asn issue.

The two guns you have require some diffrent mounting height.
The A5 can have fairly low, while the AX normally needs above 1,35"
So when speaking of our mounts we have a 1,35" mount that is 0 tilt.
Total of 20 moa on a 308 with 168 grain bullets is really on the limit to 1300 yards.
But with 155 grain scenars it's not a problem.

THe 1,35" mount we only offers as 0 moa.
While the 1,18" and the 1,5" are offered as 0, 20.6, 31 and 44,4 to.
1,5" height on the A5 is no fun.....
