Re: Random question..crushing powder to be finer ?
The modern powders are in specific forms, and with specific coatings to control the rate of burn.
Crushing the powder gives the smaller particles a larger surface area in which to give more volume to burn, and quicker. The old time black powder consisted of small particles or even in fine powder form, which is why it burned sooo fast and makes great bombs.
I don't think there is a way to experiment with crushing smokeless powder and igniting it in a "controlled experiment". You won't have any idea how fast it will burn. The only control you have is the amount of powder in a pile, and standing back with a fire extinguisher, welding goggles and burn ointment.
