Do you guys use the pocket slide-rule type calculators to assist you in range estimation and ballistic (drop) calcs?

I've come across these 2---->

Ballistic calculator wheel... http://www.snipershide.com/2012/08/accu ... hiz-wheel/

Another style, mildot master... http://www.mildot.com/

Is one better than the other, in general ?
Also....is one better if using a fixed power Mil/Mil scope?

Re: Ranging / Ballistic pocket Calculators, which one?

I'm somewhat new to this ( but not new to guns and shooting). That said, it seems to me that this device maybe complements the other two that I noted...by doing something yet different.

It seems this device spits out MIl or MOA (or inches?) firing solutions...whereas the MildotMaster device would help establish range-to-target. Upon rethinking this,I think I can forego the WhizWheel ...as it may be better for me to log my own bullet-drop-at-range by actually testing the bullet and equipment I will shoot. The range estimation can be done longhand "by formula" using a Mil/Mil scope...and the Mildot Master (I guess) simply does this long hand calc for you quickly as a slide-rule. And therin lies another issue. What if my 308 round is not of the bullet type you have pre-programmed in your formula?. Seems my best bet...with all due respect...maybe a combo of MildotMaster coupled with my own data book of actual drop "at various ranges".... no?
