My Sig Kilo 2000 only hits the steel targets CONSISTENTLY to about 800 yards. Occasionally will hit 900. Never got a reading past that. My local range goes out to a mile in some configurations. 1,400 yards on a regular basis. Looking for a LRF that will range consistently to a mile.

Ten years ago there really wasn’t any other good option for a LRF that could reliably range to or beyond a mile than the Vectronix line. The PLRFs though were pretty expensive for the average consumer, so the PLRF-05 (aka Terrapin) was created to fit that market. It was basically a PLRF-lite with slightly reduced range, no cable link/output, no digital compass option. Since then there are a few consumer LRF that are pretty good and get close to the Terrapin. So now we have Terrapin X with new features like bluetooth link and a digital compass for direction (though I don’t think this is the same level as the other PLRF’s compass…correct me if I’m wrong).

So there are decent less expensive options, but probably not as reliable. And a used older model Terrapin is a solid option if you don’t need the connection to a ballistic computer.

I got the Sig Kilo 3000 a little under a year ago, and I am quite happy with it. If you stabilize the binos decently well, you can range off of dirt/grass hillsides at a mile+. Against reflective things, it will go well beyond - on a tripod, 2000-2500 off a steel target is totally doable

Terrapin X is a great unit, but it's expensive and not as convenient as binos. If you don't need to go to the longer ranges the Terrapin X is capable of, go with something like the Sig.

Leica 2800 or 3500 consistently will range out to a mile on a ipsc in most conditions

Whats your budget? There are a bunch of devices that fit your requirement.

sig has released a kilo 5000... i have the 3000 binos & love them ... but your 2000 should be doing better than that..?
You would think so. I once ranged a dump truck and bulldozer at over 2,000. But steel plates I can't get past 900 or so.

I’ve used the leupold 2800 and vortex 5000 past 2000+ yards with good results.
I’m confident the Leica 2800 and 3500 and sig 3000 are right there as well.
    Ranging 3000+ gets expensive.

I've had my Leica HDR 2700 binos out to 2200 metres reliably on the tripod . The 2800 leica LRF will do it with ease aswell

I'm too poor to afford anything cool or expensive so I started with a Bushnell Elite 1500 which was difficult to get a read on anything past 1000m. Conditions had to be PERFECT and on some sort of rest to get a reading. I recently ditched that and got the Vortex 4000 range finder and it has worked pretty well for the distances I shoot. It can get readings back on a steel target, bush or rock fairly easily within 2000m. Beyond that, a rest and the ELR mode would be needed. But for less than $500 for something that fits in the palm of your hand, it's a good value.

My Zeiss Victory 10x42 RF’s hit consistently past 2k . Furthest I’ve had them 2.5k-ish

I have a NewCon LRM3500BT. I rarely use it because all my targets are known distances now. But below are some of the ranges I’ve done and bounced the results off of map data. I presume the mad data is good to ~ 12 feet but I’m not sure. All ranges are done in the bright Arizona sun.

The last pic is of a target that I believe is 1MOAish. Not entirely sure.

    a tripod is a must

Sig kilo 3000bdx binos have served well so far. Very fast and have ranged 2500 plus yards. Ranged a deer at 1760 perfect conditions

I have the SIG 3k binos and the Vortex handheld LRF (4000, I think). Both have ranged out to a mile+. I've compared them side by side and they are within a yard or two of each other.

Does the NewCon integrate with BallisticArc?

Have you tried using your current range finder on a tripod? I've ran my Vortex 1800 and my fathers Sig Kilo 2k well past 900 yards.

Had the same issues with my lower end Kilo 1000 it would only range about 70% of the advertised distance on trees, animals, reflective target's. I have the Kilo 2400 now and it has no issues with anything past a mile on steel, frequently ping 2k+ no prob. If you wanna stick with Sig get the Kilo 2400 or the 3000 Binos or you can bump up to the pricey stuff just depends on what you wanna spend.

Depends on the environment around your target - if you are setting up targets in a heavy bush area, you want something that doesn’t have a huge beam.

The ones I like the most is the OG terrapin and the newer Terrapin X/Leica.

Take your time. Always new stuff hitting the streets. Who knows, maybe Terrapin X would get an upgrade?

Is this the newer 6x25 kilo 2000 or the older 7x25? I had the older model and could get large reflective objects out to 3400. It was way ahead of it's time for a $300 rangefinder. Deer and trees it would do 1200.

When they downgraded the line and make the 2200 about on par with the old 2000, the new 2000 took a hit on performance.

7x25. I've NEVER been able to get anywhere close to those distances.

Maybe mine was worth more than I sold it for. I had no problem ranging the steel plates at a mile where we shoot with it. Have you tried new, high quality, lithium batteries? Alkaline batteries drop voltage over time, whereas high output lithiums give it their all till they die.
