They require cell service to work, and you may not be able to communicate with someone you are looking at. If they ever get a line of site capability when that is feasible, RR may be useful.
They work great, but as was mentioned, they require that you pay for a cellular service for each radio that you use. So ultimately we dropped them because they’re just not as useful as a regular mobile phone, and they require the same service so it’s not like you’re gonna get service in areas where cell phones don’t work. if you’re accustomed to good old-fashioned walkie-talkies, these work quite well at pretty much anywhere cell service is accessible. I’ve been able to talk to my wife in real time, or close to it because there is a little bit of a lag, while I was in LA and she was back home in Alabama. So it’s pretty convenient, and if you want something that big brother might not be monitoring as closely as they do if you’re on a list like that Deersniper douchebag.
Honestly, if you want some kick ass Comms that are basically impossible to monitor, you should get a Skybridge from Bridgecom and use legit DMR radios. There’s a whole lot more functionality, and you can do LOS with the radios when not using a DMR repeater or a Skybridge.

I looked into them but decided that since they use cell networks I would not gain anything by getting them. I use my Starlink Mini for everything
Relying on cellular is stupid imo.

LoRa / Manet is still fairly range-limited. It’s also D.O.G. slow, but great for local comms and for when infrastructure eats the big one or you just wanna communicate without worrying about evesdropping.
DMR is a better option for comms when you still have infrastructure. Non-Cell based comms work almost worldwide, and if you have access to Wifi, you can use a Skybridge to close the loop and use Encryption. Have a Skybridge setup at home with a radio always on in a charger, and I travel with an 878 and a Skybridge so we can chat. That said, a phone with Signal or Telegram can basically do the same thing with greater convenience, but it goes over infrastructure that is constantly monitored, if that’s a concern.
No low ball offers, I know what I have here. Optional extending antenna even.

When you travel do you have to just find WiFi somewhere or can you use satellite internet?
You can use any Wifi, and if you have a Starlink Mini or something you can use that for internet and use the Skybridge.
