Night Vision Raytheon W1000 9 Thermal

I've never owned one, but I've been out with a guy who did.

For a 320 unit, they have an amazing image! But that's in part due to the HUGE lens on front (as well as a great display on back).

And I've seen them priced out around $3,000 plus or minus in the past year, so the price is MUCH lower than it was years ago.

Bottom line, back in their day, they were a great unit, but these days, the weight (close to 4 pounds) and the inability to get them repaired if they break, are reason for pause.

That and the pulsars are about the same price and about the same image ... and are MUCH lighter and you know you can get them repaired. So, if it was me, I'd rather have a pulsar these days.

Another plus of the Raytheon's is they do have ballistic reticles, which most civilian thermals (like Armasights and Trijicons) lack. Pulsars do have ballistic reticles.

A negative, is the Raytheon's have "special" battery packs, though arguably, so do the newer (trail) pulsars.

So, on those points, the Raytheon's and the pulsars are about even.

Rayathon can come with a PP9 battery conversion pack. If you break a PULSAR or any thermal your going to bleed on the fix cost.

Unless the support team sends you a new replacement (which has, so far, always been the case for me) in exchange for the less new broken one.
