Purchased a cast trimmer from RCBS trying to make the process a little smoother and less strenuous. I started with a 7MM REM MAG and the shell holder RCBS suggested was #4 but I inserted the case and it is VERY sloppy are there any other holder that fit this better. Also when I turn the handle the entire case turns so it is not getting trimmed. Any help is appreciated.

Re: RCBS case trimmer help

I got one and have had same issues. I suggest getting the 3 way cutter. It knocks it out all in one punch. Also the shell holders can be very finicky so purchase 3 or 4 of them. Another thing is you have got slide lubricated. I usually just spray it with hornady's one shot case lube. One more thing is to make sure your pilot, cutter and micrometers are snug as can be. Keep the cutter clean to a certain extent and that should help

Re: RCBS case trimmer help

Are you sure the plate is on the correct way? The beveled portion of the plate should be facing the cutter, not away from it. It might seem obvious, but its easy to check.

Re: RCBS case trimmer help

I have one and used it for .223, .308. 30-06, .270 and .243, with no problems. I think you probable put the shellholder in backwards, or something. If you want to make it faster (after resolving the shellholder issue) remove the handle and chuck a 1/2" drill onto the shaft. Good luck... REMEMBER (excuse the all-caps, just for emphasis) If you have a problem with a RCBS product, the best solution is to call customer service. They are knowledgeable, patient and you have already paid for the service. I have called with some real dumb-ass stuff and have yet to be less than satisfied with the help.

Re: RCBS case trimmer help

I know what he is talking about. I have one specifically set up for a .300 mag, but the cases are so bulky and long I think it is pretty hard on the cutter. Not to mention the belts might be causing the rotation. Hell who knows?

Re: RCBS case trimmer help

Like was suggested call RCBS. They are great about helping and replacing parts. As for other suggestions since you've used it for other calibers I'm at a loss.
