I need to start turning the necks for my 300WM so I went down to my local shop to see what they had. I found an attachment for the RCBS case trimmer. I would have to buy the RCBS trimmer since I use the LE Wilson. My question is how is the RCBS trimmer compared to my LE Wilson.

Re: RCBS Case trimmer/Neck turner question

unless you case necks are expanding less then .005 , then i would not be turning my case necks.

(sry to assume but) odds are your chamber is not a tight neck chamber , since your asking questions about neck turning. Typically if you knew you were running a tight neck chamber , you would already own a neck turner.

don nielson pumpkin neck turning is good if you can find it.

It is a new rifle that is stamped .336. It loads BH's 190's fine but my reloads will not load unless I take sandpaper to the necks.

+1 That is the setup I use. Be sure to order the neck expander with the K&M turning tool.

Turning necks yields a much more consistant neck wall thickness, tight chamber or not.

Re: RCBS Case trimmer/Neck turner question

I have and use the RCBS Neck Turning tool on my RCBS Trimmer. It works fairly well.

I have the older collet style trimmer and it does a good job of holding the case. The pilot has a cutter on it that also removes any doughnut that might form inside the case. I've modified the neck turning cutter on mine so it cuts my shoulder/neck junction at a 20 degree angle with a slight radius. Some work with a dremel and follow up with a fine stone, along with patience, gives me a nice looking case when finished. Definitely have to make sure and use a good lube on the mandrel though.

I also use the 3-way cutter for length trimming. Cuts case to length, chamfers, and de-burrs, all in one operation.

Makes the RCBS Lathe type trimmer a pretty versatile tool, all in all.
