what about a .270/.300 Win Mag? Would appreciate anyone's thoughts.

7mm mag 300 mag is pretty versatile if you hand load, and there are many many good bullets to choose from.
The more limited bullet selection would steer me away from the 270 most of the time.
Need to hear a bit more about what you are after to help ya out better.
