This may have been asked a few times but here it goes: If I re-barrel my rifle and use the same stock and action do I need to re-bed it as long as the contour is the same and there is obvious clearence between the barrel and stock? thanks

Re: Re-Barrel and Bedding

Yes because beddding is an exact mold of the barreled action. So any difference no matter how slight will make a difference

Re: Re-Barrel and Bedding

Depends on some things.

Was the action trued? New lug used?

If nothing was done to the action, and same lug was used, and the lug area was bedded/relieved in a certain way, you might get away with not rebedding it.

But there are several things that could cause you to have to rebed.

Re: Re-Barrel and Bedding

I tried to get away with not re bedding my gun after a action blueprint and a new barrel that was contoured to the old barrel but never could get it to shoot. It is off getting re bedded right now.
