Hope this the correct place for this. Well I was pulling an enclosed trailer June 24 th this year and was run over by a Fed ex semi from behind. I had many guns in the trailer, and the truck ran right the top of it, So much for my bad luck. One gun was a Remington 700 in Rem 223, it destroyed it except for bolt and receiver, my question is what do you folks think would be a good calibre to rebuild, I plan on using for varmits and target out to 600 meters.
Thanks to all
I'll post some pictures in a different post

223AI would be my choice, with that bolt face you don't have many options. Or you could sell or trade that action for a larger bolt face version, then you have lots of options.

I agree, without going to a larger bolt fase you are somewhat limited. Although you could go a few different ways, most cartridges in the .377 base diameter are a little small, and light weight for 600 yard shooting, due to wind drift. However if you went with a larger bolt fase, like a .473. you could go with the 22-250, you have plenty of velosity, and ammo is still easy to find, if you don't reload. Alot of it comes down to whether you reload or not, and how exotic you want to get. JHMO

It's so easy to shoot 223, and so cheap. 8 twist barrel throated for 80 gr bullets. 60gr vmax for vermin, 80gr bullets to play long. 1000yds cheap fun easy to load no recoil. And with a med palma style contour at 22 inch you will shoot flatter than the most shooting the standard 175 smk loads at 2650.
