Can anyone tell me what grit to blast my Cerakoted bolt with so that I can redo it?

100 grit Aluminum O, or 120? Glass bead? Or does it need to be blasted?

Thanks!

It will need to be blasted if you're going to reapply cerakote. I personally avoid coating bolt bodies anymore but 100grit AO at 60psi or so should do. Follow cerakote instructions for blasting.

I have read pros/cons of coating the bolt....but if you don't do the lugs, there shouldn't be much there to interfere with the smoothness or operation of the bolt, correct?

My Rem 700 bolt and action is coated with Cerokote... runs smooth as glass.
My Deviant bolt is being sent off today to be Melonited though...Will be Cerokoting the action, but not the bolt.

try 40psi so the surface doesn't get too rough. I just sprayed two bolts with micro slick from Ceracoat. They recommend 40psi. I have to wait a few days before I test it out.

For Micro Slick you don't blast. That contradicts why you are adding Micro Slick in the first place. The color on Micro Slick is just to show the coverage. Ideally it is to be burnished in once cured and that will remove most of it except what has penetrated the pores of the steel. It's a dry film lubricant.

On bolts we blast and coat the whole thing guts feather and all with Cerakore

Look on there website they recommend you blast the bolt before you apply micro slick
I'm saying that you must use a material that is thin so you don't have a clearance issue. Gunkote work great on custom actions since its very thin.

When I first started spraying ceracoat I used 100 grit AO, I found it to be too rough for a good smooth finish. After switching to 120 AO things come out a lot nicer. Whatever you do do not use glass beads they dimple the surface and the paint will not adhere correctly.
