Hey Guys,

I've been slowly piecing together a build for what seems like forever now. I have a DPMS lower / receiver, JP handguard and brake. Plan on purchasing a JP barrel, just not certain which caliber...

I've been reading the pros and cons of various calibers. I've done my best to consolidate calibers over the last 2 years. I have a 308 bolt gun, so it made sense to finish this build in 308. I've had this idea of building a 260 or 6.5 next.

Just looking for advice, pros vs. cons of jumping into another caliber now or should I just stay on the path of the 308.

Always appreciate the advice guys.

Im biased towards the 6.5 cuz ive been wanting to build one.

What other caliber rifles do you have? If you load its nice to already be tooled up and when facing a new caliber you have to invest in brass as well.

A couple of weeks ago I traded a .223 LTR and Zeiss scope for a Mega Maten in .260. The reason for trading is I already have a custom .223 and a 7ooP in .223. I've also got two custom .308s and a custom 6.5x47 so staying with the 6.5s I wanted a .260. Since it is a gasser, I didn't want to buy Lapua brass so I've been neck sizing some 7mm-08 and .308 brass. Really haven't had a chance to shoot it much, just 35 rnds of load workups. I managed to get a couple of 3/4" groups without a bipod and with a heavy DPMS trigger. All that is fixed now (Atlas and Geiselle SSA NM) and am waiting to go back to the range and see what this 18.5" .260 will do at 300yds. The 6.5s are much nicer to shoot compared to the .308, and I feel much more accurate, at least to me. Maybe it's the little holes it makes?
Either way you go, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

For a semi, I would stick with 308-Win.

A semi is expensive to feed and mine cost me about $10 a minute when slapping steel. Eventually you'll be looking for cheap ammo that shoots MOA and saving the expensive ammo for impressing yourself on paper.

Can you handle the little extra recoil of a 7.62 vs 6.5?

Damn expensive toys!
