Rear sight question

I am looking to get a back up sight for my AR. My front sight is the standard fixed sight. The flip up sights that I have looked at only have adjustment for windage. Am I going to need elevation adjustment considering the front sight is fixed? Am I supposed to just aim high or low? I'm new to this platform.

The elevation on standard AR sights is adjusted by turning the front sight post. I recommend getting a tool like this:

You can use a bullet tip in a pinch to push down the detent and turn the sight post, but it's much easier with a tool.
