Jun 28, 2023 - Recap of the URSA NorCal Jun ‘23 event (by RD, Lynn Dragoman; build info and notes from Oscar)

Shooters - the June Match was huge as we had our first Lady shooter win a match in the 8+ years that URSA has been holding matches. Not only did Amanda win the first match, she also won the second match as well!!! Way to go Amanda!!!! [Both matches were contested at 2147 yards.] And just to show us how easy it is, she got first round hits on 5 of her 7 various strings (practice, qual, and record), which is another first. [Amanda was Runner-up last month. Lisa Chan was Runner-up at 2080 yards back in Jan 2018 in SoCal.]

Runner-up in Match 1 was Mark Morales, after a sudden-death shoot-off. He also got 5 in 10 hits during qual, giving him his first achievement point. Runner-up in Match 2 was Ken Eng shooting his .50 DTC.

A huge Thank You to RickyRacer87 for weed-whacking and chain-sawing all day on Saturday!!! I couldn't keep up with him, he’s a hard worker and great ambassador for the sport.

We had 9 guns on the line and conditions started out good but quickly got switchy with moderate mirage.

Hopefully RickyRacer87 got some pictures of Amanda, not just video, opening a huge can of whoop arse on all those guys, myself included.

Also welcome to Armaan who made the trip up the mountain in his Honda. On another forum a flatlander posted how hard it was to get to our shooting location. I didn't get a picture of his car but a KIA SUV was parked in front of my truck showing just how easy it is to shoot with us.

We are officially closed down until October so the deer hunters can hunt without us making a lot of noise.

Also a big shot out to Deputy Sheriff Shuckells who stopped by and gave Ken a bag of .50 BMG brass some target shooters left behind.

Amanda was shooting 300 gr Berger OTMs out of Doug’s Billy Goat Machine-built 33XC with BGM Ovis (Defiance Deviant Tactical) action, 31” Lothar Walther bull barrel, Manners T-5A stock, and Nightforce 7-35x56 ATACR scope on ERATAC 0-70 MOA base and rings.

Mark was shooting 300 gr Hornady A-Tips out of his Alamo Precision-built .338 Norma Magnum AI with Defiance Tenacity action, 20” Bartlein barrel, McMIllan A5 stock, and Leupold Mark 5HD 7-35x56 scope, Vortex Razor rings, and a Defiance rail with 20 MOA.

Ken was shooting 762 gr Cutting Edge MTACs out of his Billy Goat Machine-built .50 DTC with McMillan TAC-50 action, 35” Lilja barrel, McMillan LBR stock, and Nightforce NXS 12-42x56 scope with Ivey base and rings (up to 200 MOA).

Pics of the winner and runner-ups in the Gallery.

It was posted here that our venue was almost impossible to get to by a poster who doesn't shoot with us.
The picture shows a KIA parked behind the shooting line.
In the second picture you can see the driver of the KIA he is in a black T-shirt with grey hair.
