I am thinking about a 260 remington build. If I buy a 26 inch barrel, "when its shot out", what gets shot out. Is it the throat or do you actually where out the lands. I am thinking about making it with a 26 inch barrel, and once it stops shooting, shorten it and rechamber. Can this be done.

Re: Rechambering question

It's called a setback and it can be done if you don't wait too long. The throat begins to erode; after it gets too long the accuracy will fade away until it becomes unacceptable, the barrel is shot out. Match barrels can go on after their competition days to become hunting rifles. After a lot of rounds the actual rifling can be eroded, if that happens, then the barrel is truly shot out and tomato stake material.
