Redding FL Resizing Die question

Where is the expander ball supposed to be? Down low so that it opens up the neck when its pulled out? Up high so it in the neck while the neck is being resized?

No expander at all? My gut says it should be set so on the way out it is following just behind the neck sizer so that the neck is held center while the ball is following it out.

You’re boxed in to the down low position if you want it to decap, which is where it should be anyway. Many run no ball at all, which makes sense since Redding expander balls are the reason that expander balls have a shitty reputation.

First thing I do to my brass is I decap with Lee universal decapper. Then measure a handful or two to verify headspace. Then tumble in steel media. Dry the brass, Inspect.
