Hello,

I am just starting out loading precision 308 for my M70 and received a set of Redding National Match type "S" dies. I know I will need some of the bushings for the neck sizing.

Do we have a vendor on this sight that sells them, or maybe someone can direct me to a location that might have them.

It was suggested that I get 332 to 338 sizes to cover different neck thicknesses?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jerry

Re: Redding National match bushings for 308 die

If you are using just one brand of brass, take a micrometer to a loaded round at the neck, then subtract .001 or more likely .002 to get the bushing size you would want. But some trial and error may be involved after that.

I would not get every size, but skip every other one, as a .001 size difference will probably not be really enough of a change to make a difference, neck-tension wise.

Or order a bunch from a place like Midway that has a good returns policy and return what you don't need!

Measure a fired case (or better still 10 fired cases from that rifle). The average will be the obturated neck size and a reasonable approximation of the actual neck diameter (less 0.001).

(Neck) Size one of these cases and without priming or powdering the case, seat one bullet. Now measure the neck diameter.

If the sized and seated neck diameter is more than 0.006" smaller than the obturated neck diameter you need at least 2 bushings. The second bushing will be 0.002 smaller than the second measurement. The first bushing will be half way between the second bushing and the obturated neck diameter.

When sizing the neck, size a batch of them down with the first bushing first, then change the bushing and size the batch down with the second bushing second. German Salazar does the/any body sizing on the application of the second bushing and found better concentricity using that method.

Great info, thanks.

Is there a large degree of difference between the $12 steel bushings and $24 what ever they are called bushings?

I understand you do not need to lube the necks with the Tinoxisdiexyjdhrnsn.... bushings....

Thanks

Re: Redding National match bushings for 308 die

I just have the cheap steel neck bushings, and normally only lube the first few necks in the resizing batch with a drop or so, then do the rest dry.

The Ti bushing will make for a smoother operation if you don't want to use any lube.... occasionally (in my experince so far)an unlubed neck will stick a bit in a steel bushing, but not enough to cause any real problem.
