Gunsmithing Relacing forend rail from McMillan stock

Thinking of replacing the beat up forend rail on my McMillan stock. It's fastened with four allen head screws just like the pic below. Do I need to separate the barreled action from the stock, or just unscrew four allen heads and replace with new rail ? Are the nuts holding the rail inside the stock embedded, or will they fall out when the rail is taken off ? Thanks

They would be an embedded T-Nut or similar.
