Well, first time on the range w/ this rifle. 30-378 WeatherBy Accumark w/ a Vortex PST 4x16-50 FFP scope.

Since load data is scarse and limited, I started w/ 93 grns of IMR7828 SSC and loaded up to 96 grains by .5 grain increments using Norma brass, 210 Federal primers and 208 BTHP Hornady bullets.

I noticed the powder speeds did not show what I expected at 28 degrees. Then when I did get to the max 96 grain load I had loaded up too, the round was pushing 3150 fps and I couldn't open the bolt w/o a lot of effort.

Previous rounds all the way up to 95.5 grains of powder did not result in the pressure issues seen on the Norma brass. I was chroming the 95.5 grain loads at 3077 and 3026. The 96 grain loads were chrono'ed at 3143, 3160.

Another thing I noticed, I had 3 rounds that were delayed ignition of the primer. The hammer would fall and about a 1/3 of a second the round would go off.

I was quite happy w/ putting 14 rounds in a 4" diameter at ranges of 100 and 300 yards for a first time bore sited rifle.

But, could the problems I'm seeing w/ the load ballistic speeds be attributed to the Federal 210 primers? The chrono distance is 10'.

I'm going to get a box of Federal 215 primers and try them. Another thing, this rifle kicks about as much as my .270 Weatherby mag.

Any input is welcome.

Regards,
David
