Hey guys, I've searched a little in the hopes of solving my hangfire problem in my savage 110 BA 338 lapua.

My current load is 87 gr RL 25, CCI LRM primers,338 lapua brass, and 300 gr scenars .010" off the lands. I have gone through maybe 200 rounds, and had three hangfires.

From what I'm reading I should switch to a hotter primer like fed215m's but today I measured my case capacity with water and its 116.5 grs. (spec is 104)

I'm starting to wonder if 87 grs of RL25 is too light of a load for this case capacity, and when paired with the CCI primers I'm getting the odd hangfire?

thanks

Your charge sounds reasonable. Certainly try different primers. No chance of water in your cases, right???

Nope, no moisture, everything is stored well and kept very dry. (the air here sucks the moisture out of everything, trust me) Unless the powder's bad, but it looks fine.

I think I'm going to hunt for some Federal 215 primers, and possibly try 88 and 89 gr loads. I'm currently seeing zero pressure signs even on one peice of brass I've fired 8 times for testing with only neck sizing.

I think it would be safe to go to a stiffer load, but I really only have 1000 yards to shoot in my back yard soooo I don't need too hot of a load I guess....

I started out in the 88-89 range and wanst happy with groups and vel. ( Rem 700p ) worked up to 97 gr range and group size droped to 1/2 to 3/4 and vel was 2900. Above 97.2 gr vel was at 2940 to 2950 and was getting hard bolt lift, and pressure signs on the cases.

I have been using the fed match 215 primers. I have shot the Serria and Berger 300's, I liked the Bergers better. Work up your loads slowly watching for pressure, and grouping.

try about 2 more grains of powder and switch to fed 215 primers.
