Range Report Rem 308 5 R & 200gr Accubond

Re: Rem 308 5 R & 200gr Accubond

I assume you mean you can only test out to 200 yards. Is that correct?

Unfortunately, there isn't data for this bullet from Bryan Litz. Looking at the 180 gr. Accubond and extrapolating a little from that and the 165 gr. Accubond, I'd say maybe. I used a G7 BC of .260 and a projectile length of 1.5" then tried again with .280 and in both cases ended up with a stability factor of 1.47. That's not bad. That bullet will maintain velocity fairly well, so probably it will remain stable as far out as 800-1000 yards, depending on altitude.

Check out the thread on 208-gr. A-Max. That may give you some insight.

Re: Rem 308 5 R & 200gr Accubond

yes they will shoot just fine.I am shooting the 208gn A-max in my 5R.and my max load with the 208gn A-max is 47.5gn of R17.but worked up from 45gn of R17 till I got up to 48gn that gave me to much pressure.so I backed off .5 grains then I worked on the C.O.A.L.now I am veryhappy with the load.

Re: Rem 308 5 R & 200gr Accubond

Yes I can only test out to 200 yds. I'm trying to decide if this would be a satisfactory load for Colorado Elk if I can get some good accuracy with the 200gr. bullets.

Re: Rem 308 5 R & 200gr Accubond

Get Win Cases, they are some of the lightest .308 cases. Light=case capacity. More Case capacity means more RL-17 which means more FPS. I launch the 190 SMK with win cases 2710 FPS. I would imagine a 200 should be in the low 2600 FPS and be plenty accurate. It would also be more powerful than a normal .30-06 load.
