Dicks sporting goods here has one of their Remington 700 ADL's in 243 for $450.00. Along with multiple 308's and 223's.

I have wanted a 243 just to shoot at this new 1000 yrd range nearby for a while and happened across this deal last night and cant get my mind off of it. They only had one (they said) and thats a hell of a deal. The adl stock will be scrapped for an hs to match my 700p. Why? I want twin guns and their affordable...

My question is, are these factory remington 700 243 varmints usually accurate and if so, what twist they are and if I can shoot some of the heavier bullets. Namely the 115'ish grainers ive read about. I read somewhere they were 1/9.something..?

Thanks a lot

Re: Rem 700 243 varmint opinions?

Im sorry I wish I knew more about 243's. I would use it almost exclusively for long range shooting. Which im new to as well. I've had good luck with amax's in 308 so that is good news to me.

How are the 105 amax's 750+? Given the needed velocity.

I was looking at that same model rifle, (I think). I called Remington to find out if they spec'd the accuracy and they said that they don't have any accuracy spec on any of their production rifles. The guy I talked to said that Remington doesn't offer an ADL any longer except for the "cheap" ones they sell through Walmart and Dicks. I was bummed. So, I suspect you might get a good shooter, or you might get a poor one.

I was led to believe that the barreled actions remington slap together are the same regardless of their future configurations.. For example, the same 308 barreled actions are the same in the 700 varmint and the 700p. Both 700s/a, both 26" 1/12" twist "varmint" barrels, the difference being the stock and from one source the triggers. Not sure about any of that just hear say.

Also, my best load with the 105 berger vld with H1000 is pushing them at 2930 using lapua brass. I'd say go for it and start saving for a replacement stock.

KenTex,

I believe you are close in reference the barreled action comment. The P's get parkerizing, but basically they are the same with the exception of what you mentioned. The old PSS systems were rumored to get a little more oversight, but basically the same. I had this question when I ran across a rifle that had the receiver poorly tapped for scope mounts. Good luck if you go with the .243

KenTex,

I bought one of those in the .308 Win. It's a shooter.
Same barrel/action as any other 700.

Removed and sold the cheap scope and stock, replaced the trigger with a Jewell, put it in a B&C A5 Tactical Adjustable, put a Vortex Viper PST 6-24 FFP on it and couldn't be happier.

Go shoot it!
