I just bought a 1964 Remington 700 6mm short action. Does anyone know if there was a standard rate of twist??

Re: Rem 700 6mm twist

Use the old cleaning rod technique to determine your twist rate, works well.

Re: Rem 700 6mm twist

Should be 1-9 1/8", So you can shoot up to a 95 vld and maybe a 105 a-max if you push it hard enough. But just about all regular hunting bullets will shoot good.

Re: Rem 700 6mm twist

Is it 6mm remington or .244 remington? I think the only difference is the twist. the .244 was 1 in 12" and too slow for heavy bullets.

They just introduced the 6mm in 1964 hence the reason for the question

Re: Rem 700 6mm twist

It is a 6mm and it does have the 1-9".. I finally got off my arse, cleaned it and verified the twist with the trusty ole cleaning rod method.

Thanks
