I am brand new to bolt action guns. I have a nearly-new Rem 700 and bought a Rem 700 5R Mil-spec barrel for it on an impulse buy. Being an AR guy I didn't realize it wasn't a DIY kind of thing, so I have a few questions:
1. Is the swap worth it, accuracy/velocity-wise? Both are 20" threaded barrels.
2. Any concern putting the stainless barrel on my non-stainless action? (mixing metals)
3. How much should I expect to pay a smith to do the swap.
4. Will the 5R barrel still work with the HS precision stock for my AAC profile?
5. If I do the swap, is my AAC barrel (40 rounds fired) worth anything?

Thanks for the help!

Sorry for not being much help.

Swap worth it? Not sure. Do you reload. It helps with accuracy and velocity

A lot of people install SS barrels all the time

Not sure on price.

The barrel should work in the stock.

I'd like to know the price of your barrel too,if you sell it.

1. Hard to say, it’s a factory barrel subject to Remington quality... it may shoot better but then again maybe not. Velocity, I doubt, will change much at all.

2. Nope, no concerns.

3. I do my own factory barrel swaps, so I cant say.

4. Yes, they share the same contour

5. Yes, the AAC barrel draws a crowd on Ebay and I have seen them selling around 125-175 whereas most Remington take offs sell for about half that with a few exceptions.
