If one of the threaded holes for the scope mount will not accept a screw, I am assuming the hole is not threaded correctly. Is there a way to correct this?

Run a 6-48 bottom tap into it. Carefully.
Or pay someone to fix it.
btw, if you break a HSS tap off you'll have to pay a lot more to get it fixed and opened up to 8-40

If it is the front hole use a bottom tap "carefully"!
If it is 1 of the other 3 use a regular 6-48 tap "carefully" as it will be easier to start straight and correct in the current threads than a bottom tap would.
