Rem 700 stock rifle for build

I found a stock rifle Remington catalog #85471 20" 308 fluted with crappy stock and X-Mark trigger.

Would this be a good rifle to start a build?
It has a 1/10" twist vs the 1/12" twist of the LTR.
I will be shooting heavy 175's through it.

Price is $700, would this be a good gun to start with, or should I look for another option? (SPS tactical ???)

1-12 will stabilize 175s fine. Same goes for 178s. Once you start getting to the 185-210 grain area the 1-10 is necessary.

Search Rem 700 and find some topics, you'll find more than you can read in a week.

I've got it narrowed down to a LTR 1/12 or a 700P 1/10" both about the same price and both have the X-Mark trigger.

I guess it comes down to twist rate if I'm going to replace the stock?
