I know it’s not the normal way folk do these but I prefer to do it this way.

Any thoughts…

If you wanted near perfect lug location and geometry, you'd grind the journal on the barrel and kiss the shoulder to square it and grind the ID of the lug as well as grinding both faces of the lug.

Then take this one step further by extending the journal on the barrel so that it extends past the lug, take out a couple threads on the receiver, and creating a female mating feature so that this journal can properly locate the two parts instead of depending upon the threads to keep them concentric. The standard R700 footprint doesn't quite have enough room to pull this off, unfortunately.

Had the same thought with the Howa action years ago but never perused it.
