Wanting to build a rem 700 for longe range shooting. Whats a good model and caliber to start out with. Im new into the long range shooting. Farhtest ive ever shot was 500yds with both my 308 and 25-06. Thanks for the help in advance.
Welcome to the Hide. The first question is do you plan on reloading for this long range shooting adventure? Rem 700 is a great place to build from. .308 is a great cartridge with lots of match grade ammo for sale. These are some good cartridges. Do some research on them. 260 Rem w/142 Sierra Matchking or 139 Lapua Scenar 6xc With a 115gr DTAC 7mm WSM 168 or 180 Bergers 7mm SAUM 168 or 180 Bergers
I will be reloading. They have so many 700s at gander mtn and shooters. What size barrel and what model should I look for. I want it to shoot good out of the box but I will be gradually changing things for the better.
What kind of budget do you have? Around $600 you can get a SPS-V or Tac and if you got some spare change in upwards of a $1000 look for the XCR or Sendero. I would recommend anything from a 20inch up to a 26inch barrel. Ultimately, I like a 22 or 24inch barrel.
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT get the trianguler barrel. Any heavy barreled action and preferably fluted. Dont count out Savage either.
