I posted this on bolt action rifles and got no reply, so I'd like to see if a gunsmith can help...

I'm new to bolt guns and just got a LTR with a relatively heavy (4+ lb.) trigger and would like to adjust, but don't know which trigger the rifle has. The trigger face is smooth and has a hex screw in the upper part. Is this screw the adjustment? and if so, how do it work? I read that some LTRs came with X mark triggers and some with 40X, I don't know the difference. Thanks...

Re: Rem. LTR trigger ?

You have an Xmark trigger. the set screw is an pull weight adjustment, but the one I played with it did not bring it down much below 4#.
Take it to a good smith and he can get it down to the 2.5# range if that is what you are looking for, or just buy a Timney.
