I have a rifle that was built from a .270 REM700 donor action. It was built for F T/R in .308. Currently, it is a single shot with the floor of the action bonded. The stock is a McMillan A4. I was wondering if there is anyone that makes a long action magazine that is design to carry the short action .308 cartridge (I realize that if there is, it will be a specialty item and may not be readily available). If there is, who makes it and what bottom metal would be required for its use. I did a search here and only came up with one thread but it wasn't very useful. I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!

I dunno how it is now, but in 2005 the M24 didn't use a DBM, it had a hinged floorplate. A less cryptic answer might be more helpful to the OP.

To the original poster:

A) Roll Tide!
B) I have seen, on an AI chassis, a long action .308 build where the builder put a filler block of aluminum, pinned into the magazine well, and just used the regular AI .308 magazine. I make no guarantees or promises as to how well that works, but I hope it gives you an actual option to evaluate.

Correct.

That's how it still is.
The OP did not ask for a DBM system.

He asked about bottom metal and a magazine for a long action to use a short action cartridge.
In the BDL system, the bottom metal retains the magazine body against the action.
Whatever the M24 uses will work perfectly for what he asked for.
Therefore, he would need an M24 bottom metal and magazine body.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for. And just for sanity sake, that magazine will hold a .308 round seated at 2.866"? Any idea what the max COAL would be for that magazine?

Badger M5 DBM M24 Sniper Rifle Drop In Triggerguard

It uses the AI AE Mk1 5 round single stack .308 magazine. No idea of the COAL. The bottom metal is the same inlet as the M24 .
