Re: Remington 40 XS
40x's are hand built in the Remington Custom Shop.
They are a model 700 action by design, but they are manufactured to tighter tolerances on all components then their standard production model 700 counterparts.
NO, they are not 700 actions that are pulled from standard production and trued, they are produced on their own machinery with their own tooling from the start in their own shop.
Traditionally, they have a 27.75" long heavy barrels with match reamed chambers, but they also have a 24" and 26" optional heavy barrels. Recently I have seen the newer ones offered in 20" and 18.5" with threaded ends (go figure...). There are 2 trigger options, both adjustable for travel and pull, one maxes out at 20 ounces and the other maxes out at 4 lbs.
They are normally manufactured in a single shot configuration, but they can be ordered as a repeater. I have seen repeaters in .223, .308 and 30-06 and they all were clip slotted from the factory.
They are the finest rifles Remington makes and as fine as any rifles in the world in my opinion. In closing, next time you see those people shooting 40x's and they dont know what makes them a 40x, please feel free to explain to them what they own and promptly bitch slap them for having more money than brains....
