Hi all, new here and wanted to know you think about the 504 Remington in either .17M2 or .22LR. I have heard about some twist rate problems in the early versions, but other than that they seem like fun rifles.

Are they worth the coin or is there a nicer bolt action out there for less moolah?

Thanks.

Re: Remington 504 thoughts?

The sporter 504 has had a lot of problems in 22 lr. My impression is that it's more than just the early runs. If you want more info, got to rimfirecentral and search the 504 in the Remington board

Re: Remington 504 thoughts?

Barrels in the 22lrs were questionable and reliable extraction is can also be an issue.
I put a Lilja in mine so the barrel was not an issue.
Mine has extraction issues.
The trigger is great and the factory sporter stock is very comfortable to shoot off hand.

I would likely buy a heavy barrel CZ, Quad or Ruger then drop a Lilja in the latter two if given the choice again.

Re: Remington 504 thoughts?

I had a 504T it shot great after i pillar the stock and bedded the action best shooting 22 i even owned.

But with this said i would not buy another one ever again it had little issues that drove me nuts.

Re: Remington 504 thoughts?

I have no experience with the Remington but I do have a CZ and it shoots great

Re: Remington 504 thoughts?

I have a 504T that I use as a rimfire match to my Remington 700s. I'm pleased with the feel of this rifle (its about 10 lb scoped and the trigger feels like my 700s. I havent shot it seriously for groups yet. No miss fires or loading problems but picky about ammo because of apparently short and/or tight "ELEY Chamber". I would recommend this rifle as a Remington 700 style rimfire trainer or a standard class silhouette rifle if you dont want CZ Varmint or a Sako. The 504Ts are not made anymore but are available for $650-$700

Re: Remington 504 thoughts?

From what I have heard it has been the sporter model that has has the most issues. I have the 504T and haven't had a problem with it. It shoots great with just about anything. But there are also excellent shooters made by other companies. I recently picked up a Winchester Wildcat Target/Varmint model that shoots great too. They come with 3 10 rd. mags and 1 5 rd. mag. And cost about one third as much as a Remington 504T. Not as good looking though. But looks are not what counts.

Re: Remington 504 thoughts?

I bought one as a gift for my brother from a member off the hide. Don't know how many rounds were through it but it couldn't have been many as the gun was in 95% or better shape. The lilja barrel on it shoot extremely accurate (even with cheapo aguila subs shot .5" @ 50yards) and the trigger has been tuned to ~2Lbs and is nice. Only problem is first time out one of the extractors literally fell out of the gun. Is there anyone that has advice on extractor issues?

All in all i think its a nice little 22. But in stock form id say there are better for the money. mkII BVS or CZ452v would be better for the money i would say.

Re: Remington 504 thoughts?

I looked at Remmys, Winchesters, Marlins, Rugers, Savages and
CZs about six weeks ago. I bought the CZ not because it was lower priced than most but because it felt and looked like the best quality, action is the smoothest of all. I have not been disapointed. The CZ is a 452-2E ZKM, it is boaringly accurate. You can cover ALL 50 yrd, 5 shot groups with a nickel and "one ragged holes" are common. It is easily the most accurate out of the box .22 I have ever owned.
