If the weather was better on my wifes days off I would be able to report back on this as I gave her one for Christmas. Physically it is identical in feel to my 5R in .308.
When I measured the bore for my reloads, I was able to load for a .020" jump and still stack the rounds in the box rather than single feed rounds. I can't do that on my factory .308.
It's her rifle so she gets to deflower it. I've been shooting since Christmas, but if I take her rifle out without her she'll tell me I bought it for myself. I've been married too long to make this mistake.........again.
i have no experience with the r 5 in .223,but like you i have one in .308 and if the .223's are anything like the .308's it's got to be a winner.i've thought of getting one in .300wm.
The 5R rifles chambered in .223 (along with the .308 and 300WM) are good shooters. The problem that I have with them is that Remington only offers them in a 1:9 twist, which isn't fast enough to stabilize the heavier projectiles for the most part. 69gr and lighter usually do fine, but the heavier 77-80gr SMKs are generally out. Again, it isn't that big of a drawback unless you were planning on shooting the heavier pills or have a need to push the .223 to the envelope in terms of longer range performance.
I had one and sold it to a 'Hide member. The rifle shot great, but I am a .308/22-250 kinda guy. If you are looking for a good-looking rifle that shoots well and doesn't cripply your 401K, you could do a WHOLE LOT worse.
